Tim Hansford from Texas rode the Trace while in Mississippi visiting his parents .
He took time to take a series of pictures along the way and was kind enough to
share them with us. His pictures illustrate what you would see on a typical July
 ride, when everything is at its greenest. See his July 2005 album.

Longleaf Trace Founders Honored

Longleaf Trace Coloring Book Contest Winners Recognized

Katrina damage on August 29th 2005 was major, but the entire Trace
was fully reopened by November 19th. Check the story of the cleanup.

Gateway Southern Miss parking lot sometimes taken over by
monsters (only during USM home games), use the old West
Lumber parking lot just to the west of the Gateway lot

The Trace Travelers Bike Club is featured on the American Trails web site

A warm-up area has been constructed at Jackson Station

Pine Belt Pacer Tony Mozingo presented Longleaf Trace Trail Manager
Herlon Pierce with a $700 check on 2/7/05. The check was the result
of money raised from the Steam Whistle 12K, held New Year's Day
on the Trace, which Tony directed.

Donation Box installed at Gateway Southern Miss


Barbara Sue and Russ Williams from northern Illinois are spending
some of the Winter in their RV at Paul B. Johnson State Park.
They do volunteer work as hosts at the park.


Sumrall holds their 2004 Christmas Festival on Main Street adjacent to the Trace


A U.S. flag was donated by Moore's Bike Shop, and is
mounted over their mile marker, milepost 10.

Bill and Julie Chmelir from St. Louis Missouri came down to ride
the Longleaf Trace and the Natchez Trace on their tandem bicycle


Carol and Larry Moore enjoy a break at the Beaver Pond overlook. The Moores camp at Paul B. Johnson in their RV several times each year. Look for the Carol's Kraft booth at HUBfest each Fall if you want to find a fine woven scarf.


Most of the Trace's neighbors enjoy living nearby. But others seem indifferent. This gopher turtle crossing the horse trail near Epley looked unimpressed.
