LONGLEAF TRACE TRAIL RIDERS

Minutes of January 24, 2008

The meeting of the "Longleaf Equine Trail Riders" was called to order by President Johnny Kerley on Thursday, January 24, 2007 at 7:05pm, in Sumrall, MS at Sumrall Voting Precinct.

b. Motion made to waive the reading of the minutes. Motion made by Brian, seconded by Harvey. All were in favor with none opposed.

c. Motion to accept the minutes as presented. Motion made by Paige, seconded by Dale. All were in favor with none opposed.

Old Business:

a. Dale was going to follow up with Plum Creek for some land by the sign at Epley Station. He said that Herlon would be looking into this for us.

b. The Lott Circle water connection is still in the works. Johnny is planning to put a trough with automatic waterer. The water company will place meter there in the near future.

c. There is still some concern about debris removal as the clearing process continues from Sumrall toward Melby. Dale stated that it will be best at this time to merely push debris to side of trail and allow it to degrade. All present agreed this would be easiest and most cost effective. Harvey then suggested there is a need for some fill dirt in places as well.

d. The spring trail ride to benefit the Southern Pines Animal Shelter purchase of a horse trailer for rescue was discussed. The date is April 26th and will leave out of Carson station, ride toward Bassfield then back to Carson where a lunch will be served. Traci Bruckmeirer contacted Paige and told her that they need a 16 ft. bumper pull stock type trailer. There is a person to paint it with Southern Pines Shelter on the sides and LLTTR on the back. Harvey said he will look around for one that meets those requirements. Gwen Pierce said she could contact Tom Burks of Pine Belt Trailers if there are any trade-ins that might work. Lesia suggested possibly having wagon rides for children to attract others besides horse riders. Martha and Shirley expressed some concerns over liability issues. This will be discussed at the next meeting in more detail. All present thought it would be nice if the trailer was present at ride to show what monies would go toward, but there may not be enough time.
